Whole Food Smoothie

Do you want more energy and vitality in your life? Do you feel like you are too busy to eat healthy? Does 9-13 servings of fruits and vegetables a day seem overwhelming? I love making smoothies that pack a lot of nutritional punch and taste great at the same time. I have been making smoothies for a long time now and so I have learned a few things about how to work with combining fruits and vegetables in a way that delivers optimal nutrition without tasting like dirt. Even though many of my smoothies may look like green sludge they are actually quite delicious, I promise!

Most people don't get enough high quality fruits and vegetables in their diet. With the fast paced nature of our lives today and the fast food movement many of us have lost our connection to real, whole food. With this shift many people are feeling less energy and vitality in their lives. What if I told you that you could dramatically increase your energy and overall feeling of wellness by adding a nutrient dense power smoothie to your diet each day in less than 10 minutes? Pretty great, right?

Experts recommend that we get at least 9 servings of fruits and vegetables a day. A diet rich in vegetables and fruits can lower blood pressure, reduce risk of heart disease and stroke, prevent some types of cancer, lower risk of eye and digestive problems, and have a positive effect upon blood sugar which can help keep appetite in check. The phytonutrients, antioxidants, fibers, oils and acids in fruits and vegetables have many health, healing and immune- modulating properties.

We are what we eat so it is important to choose foods that are free of pesticides, toxins, hormones, antibiotics and artificial colors, flavors, preservatives and sweeteners. Maybe this sounds like a tall order but one way to start is by making your own organic, whole food smoothies. Not only is this a healthier choice but also it can be a fun, creative experience where you get to choose exactly what you prefer. Who doesn't want that, right?

Your smoothie can be tailored to whatever your health goal is. If you want to lose weight there are a ton of smoothie recipes that use avocado and other high quality fats like flax seed or coconut oil with a good protein source like pasture raised eggs or organic whey protein to prevent blood sugar spikes and curb your appetite. Maybe you are looking to improve your vision. Try an orange, basil, spinach smoothie full of lutein and zeaxanthin, which are essential for the development and protection of our healthy eyesight. There are so many options and possibilities!

My favorite smoothie recipe for building strong muscles is:1/2 banana1-cup strawberries1-cup blueberries1/2-cup mango1/2-cup grass fed yogurt1-cup spinach1/2 cup sprouts1 serving grass fed whey protein1 tbsp. coconut oil1/2 avocadoAdd Almond milk to your desired consistency
